Our ceramics studio is a wonderfully creative space where you can come and explore the art and craft of working with clay. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced ceramicist, our workshops offer a chance to learn new techniques, experiment with different styles, and create unique pieces.

We run a variety of workshops, so there is something for everyone no matter what your skill level or thirst for knowledge.

Choose from:

  • Beginners’ Handbuilding (2 hours): This is a taster session to see if you like working with clay. We will teach you the basics of one hand building technique, such as coiling, pinching, or slab-building.

  • One-to-One Beginner Wheel Throwing (2 hours): In this beginner friendly class you’ll learn to wedge, center, and throw clay with private tuition from our expert potters.

  • Throwdown - Beginners’ Wheel Throwing (12 hours): Once you are comfortable with all the basic wheel throwing techniques, you’ll learn to trim, decorate and fire your work with private tuition from our expert potters.

  • Advanced Wheel throwing and glazing techniques (20 hours): Develop your throwing skills further with a focus on more complex forms while expanding your glazing repertoire and surface decoration skills.

  • 12 Week Ceramics course with focus on Wheel throwing (24 hours): Cover the basics of handbuilding and delve deep into wheel throwing. Over the course you’ll improve your form, develop your unique style, and learn the fundamentals of glazing and surface design techniques.

  • 24 Week Ultimate Guide To Ceramics (60 hours): From zero to hero, this course will guide you through the art of ceramics.   • Seasonal Half-Day Workshops: During the year we will be running 2-3 hour workshops based on the seasons. Our spooky Halloween ghost class is not to be missed!

  • Our Studio

    Earth Sand & Fire Ceramics first opened its doors in North Wales in April 2024. It is a fully functioning working studio with three kilns, two wheels, and lots of light.

    We are both use the wheel to create our ceramic pieces, and work with a variety of clay bodies and glazes. We sell our work through galleries, art festivals, exhibitions, and from our own studio gallery.

    Our bright and friendly space can accommodate up to 12 students where you will have fun learning new skills using the wheel, or handbuilding.

    With something for all skill levels, you can choose from a variety of courses, dates, and private sessions.

    Based in North Wales, just off the A494 and close to the M53 and M56, with easy access by car from Flintshire, Cheshire, and the Wirral.

  • Our Courses

    If you are a beginner we have 2 hour taster sessions in handbuilding or wheel throwing. We can practically guarantee that you will have fun and want to come back for more.

    Once you have the bug, you can join one of our Beginner courses. You can choose from our 6 week handbuilding course, or our one-to-one wheel throwing classes.

    If you already have some basic skills, you can rent some studio space so you can work on your own projects.

    Opening hours:
    We are open most weekends and some evenings for visitors who would like to check out our space, sign up for a workshop, purchase a gift voucher, or purchase our work. We are also open some weekdays during the school holidays.
